Attendance at any Severn Belles event implies your understanding and acceptance of both the Ride Briefing and the Additional Covid Ride Briefing. In attending a ride you agree to abide by these Briefings. You also acknowledge that photographs may be taken and used by Severn Belles for promotional purposes. For more information see our Privacy Policy.

Full Ride Briefing

  • We all ride as equals with responsibility for ourselves. We strongly recommend you hold British Cycling or Cycling UK membership so that you have Third Party insurance every time you ride. Severn Belles is not affiliated to any association – we are an identity, not an entity - and as such hold no insurance on your behalf.

  • Always ride well within your capabilities – for each RideOut we provide distance and climb information for every route and an estimate of group speed. If you encounter a climb or descent (or any other feature) which you are not wholly comfortable with, it is your responsibility to stop and seek an alternative route, or return home. You should inform your group as soon as possible (e.g. by text message) that you have left the ride.

  • Your bike should be in a roadworthy condition, and you should always carry a spare inner tube suitable for your bike (or puncture repair kit), tools and a pump.

  • You should also carry food and drink suitable for the planned ride distance. Planned coffee stops may not be open or may be overly busy – do not rely on them.

  • Wear clothes suitable for the weather, route and pace of the ride, and we always recommend carrying at least one extra layer in case of unexpected delays or rain. We recommend that you wear an approved cycling helmet, and you should never wear headphones.

  • If it’s early, dim or late (or there is any chance it might get that way) use lights.

  • Don’t forget money for coffee and cake, and currently a face covering (our multi-use neck tube is perfect!) and hand sanitiser.

  • NEVER drop litter. If you can carry it full, you can carry it empty.

  • Always let horses know you're coming by calling out in good time, whether behind or in front. Horses have very limited vision (and directional hearing) and the noise of a bike is very scary, whereas your voice lets them know there's a human aboard the contraption.

  • In wet weather it’s considered polite to use mudguards. Clip-ons are easy to use for all models of bike. If you do not have mudguards, expect to ride at the rear of the group.

  • Always thank considerate motorists. Charm offensives have bigger impacts than face-offs.

Additional Covid Ride Briefing

  • DO NOT ATTEND any RideOut if you, or anyone in your household, has shown any symptoms, or tested positive for Covid in the last 14 days.

  • DO NOT gather in groups of more than 6 before, after, or during stops on, rides. DO NOT swap to a different ‘group of 6’ on any one ride.

  • DO NOT share any equipment, clothing, food or drink.

  • PRACTICE good hand hygiene, washing your hands before and after the ride, and at any stops (or use sanitiser).

  • PRACTICE good respiratory hygiene at all times – cough or sneeze into your elbow, DO NOT spit or eject from your nose, unless into a tissue.

  • IF YOU DISPLAY SYMPTOMS or TEST POSITIVE within a few days of the ride NOTIFY US IMMEDIATELY.
